So What Is The Comfort Zone ?
The comfort zone, very simply put – is the place in which someone feels at comfort or at ease.
There are many ways to describe the comfort zone; a place in your mind where there is no pressure, no fear of change, no anxiety, and no discomfort.
It is a place that as humans, we naturally try to stay in to feel safe and secure.
Why Is It The Biggest Killer of Success ?
Although at times there may be benefits to staying in your comfort zone, it can be the greatest threat to achieving success (what ever you might define that as).
Your comfort zone with actively keep you away from feelings that most people deem as negative – whether this be anxiety , pressure, low self-esteem, lack of confidence.
The problem is that the things in life that are important and are a part of personal growth all come with these feelings!

Why You Should Go Outside Your Comfort Zone
Increase skills
Going outside of your comfort zone can hugely benefit you in many different areas, especially your confidence!
By facing a difficult task that you find uncomfortable and pushing through it, you are directly showing yourself that you can achieve things that usually doubt yourself over.
Imagine doing something that for most of your life you’ve been too afraid to do, now imagine doing it over and over again until it becomes completely comfortable.
The increased confidence, the reduced social anxiety, the level up in your career, the adoption of a new craft or hobby.
You never know – you might be really good at something that you have always put off trying!
See new places, do new things
Going outside of your comfort zone can often result in you going to places you might have never been before, or trying things that are completely new to you.
Maybe trying food you’ve always thought you didn’t like or taking yourself out of your hometown and exploring other cities and cultures (which is great for your mental health by the way!).
All these things are part & parcel of going out of your comfort zone and in result, can make you a much more well-rounded person with a broader mind.
Become mentally resilient
It’s no surprise that going outside of your comfort zone is challenging – at times it can be rather scary and can be really difficult to do, particularly if it revolves around a specific fear or phobia.
However, it is doing things that scare you that make you mentally stronger and enable you to handle challenging things in a much better way.
Constantly challenging your comfort zone and putting yourself in those uncomfortable situations can have a huge impact on your adaptability and stress tolerance, making those unplanned challenges in life a lot less challenging!
Meet new people
New places, new towns, new jobs, new interests – these are the perfect ingredients for meeting new people.
What’s not to love about new friends and new relationships?
Staying in the same places that your comfort zone confines you to will only result in you knowing the same group of people, and if none of them are on the path of self-development then how will you grow yourself?
Break those social barriers, learn from other cultures, network, and make full use of opportunities to leave your comfort zone and meet new people, your future you will thank you for it.
Discover your true potential
Going out of your comfort zone all comes down to pushing yourself past those make-believe limits that you create in your head that most of the time, are completely false.
As humans, we naturally think worst-case scenario and social norms play a huge role in this!
It is only when we go out of our comfort zone, we realise what our true limits are and just how magnificent we can actually be when we tell ourselves “I can do it”.
Maybe you aren’t as shy as you think, maybe you’re smarter than you thought or maybe you’re a natural born leader! All of which you may never have known without challenging yourself.
A different perspective
Facing brand new challenges , new situations and overcoming different obstacles requires adaptability which is amazing for personal growth and achievement.
Exposure to diverse environments and new people can give you a brand-new perspective on things and make you much more open-minded.
Having those diverse perspectives in life and improving your emotional intelligence can be crucial to navigating your way through future challenges but also improving you as a person.
Seeing different cultures, different parts of the world, and understanding the different ways that people live is hugely important for your development, and going out of your comfort zone and taking yourself to new places will give you these experiences, leading to that broader, fresher perspective on life.
